I'm back!
To Every who ever followed me and those who never had,
I'm back. The last time I was posting, it was in support of the Occupy Movement. It's been a long minute.
I'm back, at a time in history that absolutely defeats imagination. It's like the nation has been strapped into a roller-coaster and the only thing that we can agree on is that the damn thing is broken but no one knows exactly where and some of us are taking bets on where exactly the wheels will leave the rails.
I'm back. Most of my old posts were written during the Occupy Movement. Some of them, while not prescient, do show the history of where some of our issues have sprung. I will up-date and re post them.
It broke my heart that the Occupy Movement never went anywhere.
Today I support the Black Lives Matter, Indivisible, Resist and Democratic Socialist Movements.
The #Metoo Movement is a cultural revolution with all the challenges to the existing order that it implies...compare with the Iranian and Chinese cultural revolution.
In terms of the body politic, it is the inflammation caused by the fact that Trump has never a paid a price for his misogyny and sexual assaults and that these last two qualities appear to be required to be a male member of his cabinet.
The racist and white supremacist nature of this administration is frankly terrifying. My own grandfather was a racist and a bigot himself, but one of the things that I loved about him was that when his time came, he killed Nazis. That makes him an old school member of the Antifa Movement and I support them too.
I won't lie. I could watch Nazis like Richard Spencer being punched in the face all day long. Maybe that is wrong. Maybe that's not productive. But White Supremacists, White Nationalists, Nazis, Fascists, Alt-Right, and members of the KKK must never be given the benefit of the doubt or granted any accommodation or legitimacy. People who march under the flags bearing Swastikas or the Confederate Battle Standards are declaring themselves enemies of the United States, marching with the flags of vanquished enemies. Fine People don't do these things. There's no room for those who are second place in war in the leading of this nation, and this nation is the world in small and the global melting pot.
This is America.
There can be no doubt that Trump is the greatest threat to the nation since the Civil War. But understand that Trump is just the latest symptom of the chronic disease of the body politic known as Reaganomics. In Republicans this amounts to almost intentional corruption and incompetence to prove Reagan's contention that the federal government is the enemy which is incapable of doing anything well or helping anyone.
Clinton acted as if a victim of Stockholm Syndrome to Reaganomics, signing Bush-41's NAFTA agreement, doubled down on the War of Drugs, deregulated anti-trust and financial industries, emphasizing Wall Street speculation over manufacturing and the Labor Movement, he further gutted the safety net with Welfare Reform.
The Democratic Party has adopted Reaganomics as its core ethos, supplanting the New Deal which is the only thing that made America great. Reagan had declared war on the New Deal, which left segregationism as the only policy that Made America Great for Reagan and Trump.
The New Democratic (the party after Clinton) Party's preference for Speculation over Manufacturing continued to destroy the middle class, even as Clinton finished his terms with a budget surplus and Obama finished his with record stock market highs.
The Democratic Party can do America no good until there is a rapprochement with the New Deal.
Lastly, expect to hear me challenge religious white Evangelical supremacy. There is very little that Christ would want to claim ownership of in the people who have so much adoration and support for Donald Trump. They would remind him of the people who agitated for the Romans to publicly execute him on their behalf. Those at the moneychanger's tables Christ had knocked over outside the Temple. The ones who Christ had said that it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for them to enter the kingdom of God.
These people, whatever they call themselves, are the uber-conservative Pharisees and idolaters of Mammon.
