Pepper Spray Nation Chapter 6: UC-Davis
Pepper Spray Nation Occupy UC-DAVIS: The Hypocrisy of Violence
College students protesting were a common theme during the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement.
With the loss of prospects for employment and grave doubts about the system as well as social and economic justice, students are protesting again. This was the backdrop for one of the most singular excesses of the authorities against the Occupy Movement.
Passive protesters seated on the ground were pepper sprayed as a form of chemical coercion by the police. http://gizmodo.com/5861446/this-is-the-pepper-spray-police-used-on-uc-davis-protesters
This is in direct and absolutely ghoulish contrast to the behavior of students rioting on behalf of a coach who was caught on the wrong side of a child-raping scandal in Penn State. Nowhere have Occupiers by guilty of flipping over news trucks or light poles. Presumably, Occupiers would have been shot.

And Occupiers would ABSOLUTELY have been shot if they were caught with Molotov cocktails and firebombs, which American students in Egypt had been caught with in Tahrir Square. Did they get publicly beheaded or had their hands cut off as you would expect in a predominantly Muslim country? No. They were sent safely home with tales about how terrible it was and how they feared for their lives at the hands of the authorities.
The sheer hypocrisy involved can't be good for the soul.
The Occupy Movement has repeated been accused of rape, public sex, destruction of property, public drug use. Glenn Beck has accused them of pulling people out of their homes and murdering them.
NOWHERE have they rioted.
That there has been and will be sexual assault or drug use is not a surprise. It has far more to do with the large numbers of people involved than the morals and values of the Occupy Movement as a whole.
Anytime you have ANY NUMBER of people involved ANYWHERE, you are going to have trouble. The whole of history and every page of every newspaper is testimony to that fact. It wouldn't be human if it wasn't messy, and it goes for the Occupy Movement as well.
The fact that the hospitals are not filled with continual floods of women to emergency rooms who have been sexually victimized points to the fact that the Occupiers are doing a fair job of self policing. My apologies to those who have been raped.
But then you have the Penn State riot. A riot ON BEHALF of a man who gave protection and cover to a CHILD-RAPIST. In support of a child rapist, a news van was overturned and street lights were pulled down! There had been at least 23 charged in the riot, maybe 16 arrested.
Meanwhile...passive seated protesters are pepper prayed at point blank range.
BULLSHIT!
NO less egregious was the ready succor for those Americans in Egypt who'd been arrested for throwing Molotov cocktails. These self same protesters would have been well and truly perforated
by law enforcement here in America had they been a part of the Occupy Movement, And yet not a word criticizing these youths for their criminality or use of terrorist tactics.
Go on. Talk to us about out the morals and values of the Occupy Movement. Go there.
